Local CEO joins elite group of Tony Award voters
Broadway Grand Rapids will have a role in honoring top Broadway productions as the organization announces that President & CEO, Meghan Distel, has been named a full Tony Award® voting member by the Broadway League. As a Tony voter, Distel will now join a select group of approximately 800 industry professionals responsible for selecting the winners of the annual Tony Awards, which are widely regarded as the highest honors in American theater.
"It is an enormous honor and privilege to be a full Tony voting member.” Distel said. “I am excited to be part of a process that recognizes and champions the diverse range of talent and creativity that defines Broadway and to bring a unique perspective from our vibrant Grand Rapids community."
The Broadway League, which presents the Tonys annually along with the American Theater Wing, recognizes the importance of incorporating diverse viewpoints in its decision-making process. By including voters from across the United States, the League aims to ensure that the awards reflect a broad spectrum of artistic excellence and resonate with audiences nationwide.
“We’re so excited to see our colleague, Meghan Distel, be named a full Tony Award® voter. On the heels of a record-breaking season in Grand Rapids, it’s clear that her dedication to bring the best of Broadway to Michigan is unwavering. It is paramount that the Tony voting process is inclusive of perspectives like Meghan’s, as theatergoers around the nation are an essential part of our Broadway community,” said Lauren Reid, President of the John Gore Organization and Immediate Past Chair of The Broadway League’s Board of Governors.
Distel’s involvement in the Tony Award process highlights Broadway GR’s commitment to elevating the performing arts on a national level and will help to ensure that the best of Broadway continues to captivate audiences in the region.
The Tony Awards® will be presented on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. For information on the latest Broadway shows coming to DeVos Performance Hall, visit BroadwayGrandRapids.com.
