Lecture to address solutions for policies that led to racial segregation

ICCF Community Homes will host a free lecture featuring Leah Rothstein, the author of Just Action: How to Challenge Segregation Enacted Under the Color of Law. The event, co-hosted by the Calvin University Sociology/Social Work Department, will take place on Thursday, September 26, at 7 p.m. at The Recital Hall within Calvin University’s Covenant Fine Arts Center, 1795 Knollcrest Circle SE in Grand Rapids.

Rothstein’s presentation will cover practical ways activists, policymakers, and communities can address the continuing impact of government-enforced segregation. Her book Just Action, co-authored with Richard Rothstein, builds upon his bestselling work The Color of Law, which revealed how federal, state, and local governments created and perpetuated racial segregation. While The Color of Law exposed these discriminatory policies, Just Action focuses on the next steps to dismantle these barriers and create more equitable communities.

“As ICCF works toward housing justice, recognizing historical and current inequity within the housing system is imperative to creating equitable solutions and the thriving neighborhoods we seek,” said Ryan VerWys, President and CEO, ICCF Community Homes. “We hope this conversation adds a fresh spark to the discussion around affordable and equitable housing in Grand Rapids.”

The lecture is free to attend, though registration is required. To register, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/e/an-evening-with-just-action-author-leah-rothstein-tickets-965965648257?aff=oddtdtcreator/
