Employee-owned supplier commemorates 90 years, building new innovation lab
Haviland Enterprises, Inc. is commemorating its 90th anniversary as a supplier of chemicals for cleaning, water treatment, plating, and recreational water solutions. Coinciding with its anniversary milestone, Haviland is constructing a new $7 million flagship laboratory on Ann St. in Grand Rapids.
Envisioned as a hub for product development and innovation, the 11,000-square-foot facility will provide the space required to advance product development and pilot new formulations within Haviland's core markets. The company is pursuing growth in the water treatment market as water conservation efforts expand nationally.
"Our new lab is not only an investment in Haviland's technical capabilities, it also offers new value to our customers, opening the door for further innovation in our target markets of water treatment, surface finishing, and contract manufacturing," said Rob Pawson, Vice President, Haviland Products Company.
In partnership Erhardt Construction and Progressive A&E, the facility is set to be completed and in full operation in 2025.
"The new laboratory will allow us to attract West Michigan's top talent," said Meg Post, President and CEO, Haviland Enterprises, Inc. "These technical laboratory positions are critical for the growth of Haviland and provide a variety of career paths throughout our organization."
Post attributes Haviland's success to its Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), initiated by the Haviland family in 1997. In 2012, the family transferred its remaining shares to the ESOP, making Haviland fully employee-owned.
"Our drive to exceed expectations is fueled by our commitment to our customers and our community," said Post. "As a 100% employee-owned company, our employees are deeply invested in ensuring the highest level of service and product excellence. We are excited to continue delivering value that not only meets but anticipates the needs of our customers."
Haviland's 90th anniversary will be officially commemorated at its Annual Shareholders' Meeting in June, marking a significant occasion to celebrate the company's legacy and ongoing efforts to develop innovative chemical solutions in new and existing markets.
