Local parks offer free fitness program to boost community activity
Ottawa County Parks & Recreation is hosting the Step It Up! walking challenge to encourage residents to stay active and explore new parks. The free, eight-week program, which runs from April 30 to June 22, is supported by the Ottawa County Parks Foundation.
Residents of all fitness levels are invited to sign up, set goals, and track their activity. Participants are eligible for weekly raffle prizes.
2024 events include a series of group walks at various county parks from April to June, open-house-style paddle event on May 21 at Connor Bayou, open-house-style kayaking event on June 8 at Hawthorn Pond, and Grand Explorers Trail Race on June 22 at Grand River Park.
The Step It Up! program has partnered with EcoTrek Fitness to provide participants with flexibility and strength training tips. Sponsors include Priority Health, Knight Watch, and AAA Storage.
