New podcast to highlight nonprofit work
A new podcast, Known Profits, will officially launch on October 1, bringing to life the untold stories of nonprofit organizations impacting West Michigan and beyond. Hosted by nonprofit practitioners Kyle Szucs and JR Roberts, along with business finance professional Drew Meyers, the podcast will explore the challenges, successes, and unique missions of local and regional nonprofits.
"We hope our listeners leave inspired, learning more about organizations doing good work in their communities and how they can get involved," said Szucs, Co-host and Co-creator, Known Profits.
The team envisions Known Profits as a platform that raises awareness and fosters community engagement and action. The inspiration for Known Profits stems from the hosts' shared passion for connecting nonprofit organizations and their work to a broader audience.
"I had gotten to know JR through both of us working in the nonprofit field," Szucs explained. "We quickly discovered that we both were passionate about bringing more nonprofits together. I called JR about six months ago to pitch an idea of a podcast that highlighted different organizations and the work they are doing in the community."
As the podcast concept grew, so did the team's collaboration. Drew Meyers, who has a banking, finance, and nonprofit board service background, was a natural fit.
"Drew's heart for community and service runs deep, and his involvement in the project became a no-brainer," Szucs said. "He's brought valuable perspective from his experience, helping us connect with a broader audience."
In addition to spotlighting nonprofit leaders, Known Profits will dive deep into communities' critical issues, including food insecurity, housing crisis, and educational gaps.
The podcast's unique focus on storytelling sets it apart from others in the genre.
"We made many jokes about 'Does the world need one more podcast?' But at the end of the day, we felt like making a podcast that truly did focus more on people, stories, and issues in the community would be a unique take," Szucs said. "The diverse voices we are hoping to highlight will really be exciting for our future listeners to hear from."
Known Profits will release bi-monthly episodes with plans to include a guest on each episode, each running between 30-45 minutes. The first two episodes will feature conversations with Tenisa Frye, CEO of Family Promise of West Michigan, and Kevin Nelson, Senior Donor Development Manager of Heart of West Michigan United Way.
Episodes will be available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, with plans to incorporate video and expand to YouTube later this year. For more information, visit https://www.buzzsprout.com/2401324.
