Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) consultant Dr. Sandra Upton has published her first book, “MAKE IT LAST: A Roadmap and Practical Strategies for How to Do DEI.” As founder and chief DEI strategist with Upton Consulting Group, Upton has spent over 25 years researching, training, speaking, and implementing DEI methodologies. Her work spans the globe with Fortune 500 companies, universities, and nonprofits.

“DEI requires a data and outcome-driven strategy that penetrates every facet of an organization over the long haul. If done well and culturally intelligent practices are used, the outcomes are numerous: increased diverse representation at all levels of the organization, healthy inclusive cultures, equitable opportunities for all employees, increased employee engagement, improved profits, increased customer service and satisfaction, just to name a few,” said Upton.

The book is geared toward chief diversity officers, members of DEI councils, leaders of employee resource groups, human resource professionals, middle managers, and department heads who need support to create and implement DEI strategies to make and sustain change.

Using her DEI Propel™ Framework, which combines an evidence-based change management process originally created by John Kotter with DEI strategy, Upton shares how to successfully implement DEI initiatives and create a lasting diverse and inclusive workplace culture where everyone thrives, regardless of their background. The step-by-step process includes a DEI roadmap, strategies, and tools designed to push diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts into an operational part of your organization’s DNA.

“This book will help any organization develop, and here is the key: implement a sustainable DEI strategy that is data and outcome-driven. In three phases and over eight steps, readers will feel like I am literally holding their hand and taking them through an evidence-based change management process for DEI. I truly believe that if organizations use the tools in this book, it will create lasting positive change,” said Upton.
