Foster puppy raisers needed

Paws With A Cause (PAWS), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities through custom-trained assistance dogs, is actively seeking volunteers to become foster puppy raisers. Volunteers provide loving homes and foundational training to future assistance dogs, a crucial role in preparing them for careers.

No prior training experience is necessary; PAWS offers comprehensive support and resources to all volunteers throughout the fostering journey.

"Our foster puppy raisers are at the heart of our mission, providing the foundation for our custom-trained assistance and facility dogs to individuals with disabilities. By opening their homes and dedicating their time, they help create life-changing partnerships that foster independence and transform lives across the nation," said Michele Suchovsky, CEO, Paws With a Cause.

Foster puppy raisers typically welcome a PAWS puppy into their home from the age of eight weeks until the puppy is ready to begin formal assistance dog training around 14-18 months.

Recognizing that a 12– to 16-month commitment may not suit everyone, PAWS offers flexible fostering arrangements. Co-raising allows two households to share the responsibilities of raising a puppy, allowing for a more manageable time commitment. Alternatively, volunteers can raise a puppy during its early months (8 weeks to about 8 months) or take over during adolescence (about 8 months to 18 months), depending on their preferences and lifestyle.
