Mentoring nonprofit appoints new board members

Affinity Mentoring has appointed Anja Harmon and Cait Hodge to its board of directors. Affinity Mentoring facilitates equitable growth in K-8 student academics, social emotional skills, and self-esteem through one-on-one mentoring relationships at three Grand Rapids Public Schools and three Godfrey Lee Public Schools.

Harmon and Hodge joins board members Fuad Hasanovic, Nate Nussbaum, Candy Wilkes-Scheper, Rayanne Beaudry, Michael Boon, and Rachael Olsen.

"Our new board members bring fresh perspectives, lived experiences, and a shared passion for mentoring. Their leadership will help us deepen our impact, expand our reach, and ensure that every student we serve has the support they need to thrive,” said Rocio Moreno, Executive Director, Affinity Mentoring. “Together, [Cait and Anja] will help us continue cultivating a brave space that amplifies the voices of young agents of change, creating a diverse and inclusive community.”

A Senior Vice President, Employee Benefits at Hub International, Harmon is a Certified Authority of Workers’ Compensation, Licensed Life and Health Agent, as well as a Certified Wellness Coach. She is also fluent in German and Bosnian.

"I am passionate about creating opportunities for young people to thrive, and I believe that mentorship is a powerful tool for building confidence and success," said Harmon. “Together, we can help shape a future where every child has the guidance and encouragement they need to succeed.”

Hodge is a Loan Partner at Northpointe Bank. She has also been an Affinity Mentor for the past three years.

“As an Affinity mentor, I have valued the opportunity to empower, support, and sow confidence into my student mentee,” Hodge said. “I believe that this work on the individual level is strengthening to every community our students engage in afterward.”
