Nonprofit pauses operations

Affinity Mentoring is pausing its operations, citing "significant financial hardship." The nonprofit provides one-on-one mentoring to K–8 students at three Grand Rapids Public Schools and three Godfrey Lee Public Schools.
In an email to stakeholders, the organization shared that over the past several months, it has "taken every measure possible to continue mentoring without program interruption – from pouring effort into garnering additional financial support to our gracious staff members staying on board, albeit operating at reduced hours."
Affinity is currently exploring whether it can offer a safe space for mentors and mentees to continue meeting through the remainder of the 2024–25 school year with adequate support.
The organization noted that it continues receiving funding from donors and community partners and is asking for patience and grace as it determines the program's future.
