Radio station teams with nonprofit to support youth nutrition
As the new school year approaches, The Free Beer and Hot Wings Show and 97.9 WGRD are teaming up with Kids' Food Basket (KFB) for the "Fill the Basket" event, aimed at nourishing West Michigan kids to reach their full potential. On August 8, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., WGRD will air KFB stories from local educators, community organizers, and chefs about how KFB's mission has touched their lives and hearts.
"Kids' Food Basket is an amazing organization that we've admired for years and even looked to as inspiration as we began our own charity," said Chris "Hot Wings" Michels. "What KFB is able to accomplish on a daily basis for the kids of this area is nothing short of remarkable and to be able to partner with them to assist in their fundraising efforts in any way is a real honor and thrill. Our audience is a generous bunch that loves helping great causes and we have no doubt they're going to show up big for Kids' Food Basket."
KFB distributes over 10,000 healthy meals each weekday to kids in 60 schools throughout Kent, Muskegon, Ottawa, and Allegan counties. They combine this food access with education and agriculture on two community-driven farms to move the needle toward a more equitable West Michigan.
Listeners are encouraged to make a donation during the event to help continue providing nutritious meals and educational programs to children in need.
"We are grateful to the Free Beer and Hot Wings Morning Show and WGRD for their amazing advocacy for food equity. Every gift makes a difference. In fact, our average donation is under $100," said Tamara VanderArk-Potter, Vice President of Philanthropy, Kids' Food Basket. "Together, those gifts add up to an enormous impact that over 60 schools and sites rely on. We look forward to sharing the inspiring stories that keep us going and invite everyone to make their impact today."
