Retina Specialists of Michigan has expanded its services by opening new clinics in Muskegon and Portage and hiring fellowship-trained medical retina specialist Dr. Kathleen DeHorn and board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon Dr. Austen Knapp. The Portage office opened in January at 950 Trade Centre Way Ste 110, while the Muskegon clinic, located at 1250 Mercy Drive, opened in Q4 2024.
Dr. Knapp is now seeing new patients in Muskegon and Grand Rapids. She has been actively involved in ophthalmic research, contributing to numerous publications in leading journals such as Retina and JAMA Ophthalmology. Dr. Knapp earned her medical degree from Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and is passionate about advancing the field of ophthalmology through education and mentorship.
“The opening of our Muskegon clinic and the addition of Dr. Knapp reflect our ongoing mission to provide the highest quality, efficient, and compassionate care to our patients,” said Dr. Thomas Aaberg, Founding Physician, RetinaSpecialists of Michigan. “These are significant milestones that allow us to bring cutting-edge treatments to more patients and expand our capacity to meet the growing demand for retinal care along the lakeshore.”
Dr. DeHorn is now seeing patients in Portage and Grand Rapids. She earned her medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine and completed her internship and ophthalmology residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Detroit. Dr. DeHorn then pursued a medical retina fellowship at Duke University. She has nine years of experience practicing in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo and previously spent five years treating patients in Cooperstown, New York. She has also published on retinal diseases
“We are pleased to welcome Dr. DeHorn to our team. Her expertise in medical retina care allows us to expand our ability to serve patients while enhancing access to advanced treatments,” said Dr. Scott Westhouse, President, Retina Specialists of Michigan. “With the addition of our new Portage office and Dr. DeHorn’s experience, we are strengthening our commitment to providing exceptional retinal care to the greater Kalamazoo and Portage communities.
