Your guide to West Michigan farmers markets

From the lakeshore to Grand Rapids, farmers markets across West Michigan are opening for the season. 

The Holland Farmers Market opens on May 15 at the Eighth Street Market Place, 150 West 8th Street. The market will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Each season, the Holland Farmers Market brings together over 75 local farmers, specialty food vendors, and food trucks, selling fresh fruits and vegetables, bread and baked goods, eggs and meat, honey, maple syrup, jams, and gourmet specialty foods. The Holland Farmers Market recommends that customers shop early in the day for the best product assortment. 

In Wyoming, the UM Health-West Farm Market opens on May 16. It is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Thursday, rain or shine, through October 10. The market is located at 5900 Byron Center Ave., in front of the University of Michigan Health-West hospital. It offers a wide variety of fresh produce, meats, cheeses, breads, and hand-crafted items from local artisans.

The city of Grand Rapids is home to several farmers markets, most notably, the Fulton Street Market, which has connected farmers and creators to the community for over 100 years. From May through October, the main season hosts markets on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market provides diverse products, including fruits and veggies, dairy and meat, snacks and desserts, hot and prepared food, and handmade arts and crafts. The Fulton Street Market is located at 1145 Fulton Street East.

North of Grand Rapids, the Rockford Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from May 4 through October 26. It is located in the newest city lot behind the Post Office, with an entrance off Main St across the street from Rocky's. On Friday mornings, a full list of weekly vendors will be published on the market's Facebook page. 

In Michigan's Salad Bowl, Hudsonville, the Terra Square Farmer's Market opens in June and runs every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. through September. The Terra Square Farmer's Market is located at, 3380 Chicago Dr.

While it's open year-round, the Muskegon Farmers Market's summer market is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., May through November. The market is located at 242 West Western Avenue.
