Full-service CPA firm EHTC announces Paws With A Cause (PAWS) is the charity partner for its 36th annual Chipping for Charity Golf Outing. This year’s event takes place on Tuesday, June 25, at Scott Lake Golf & Practice Center, 911 Hayes Road NE in Comstock Park. Since the inception of the event, EHTC has raised over $365,000 for West Michigan nonprofits.

“Our Chipping for Charity events are a part of the fabric of our firm’s Core Values — Willingness to Grow, Going Above and Beyond, Passion for Living, and Teamwork,” said Dave Echelbarger, President of EHTC. “With so many wonderful and worthy local causes, the recipient selection process is never easy. We are excited to have Paws With A Cause as our recipient this year. Their mission is deeply impactful and we’re grateful to be able to assist them in furthering their amazing work.”

PAWS enhances the independence and quality of life for people living with physical disabilities, hearing loss, seizures, and autism nationally through custom-trained assistance dogs. They also work to increase awareness of the rights and roles of assistance dog teams through education and advocacy.

To ensure that assistance dogs are fully customized to meet a client's needs, PAWS completes a comprehensive interview process that includes visits to the clients’ homes, stores and restaurants, and their school or workplace. PAWS dogs can be trained with up to 30 tasks. They know what side of the bed a client gets up on in the morning, what kind of doors they have in their home, and any specific type of assistive devices they use.

Currently, no health insurance or government funding is available to sponsor assistance dogs. PAWS funding comes from individual donations nationwide. PAWS assistance dogs are provided to clients at no cost, and PAWS guarantees lifetime support for each client.

“Paws With A Cause is thrilled to be the charity partner for EHTC’s 36th Annual Chipping for Charity Golf Outing. As a nonprofit organization, PAWS relies upon the generosity of donors like EHTC to support our work,” says Michele Suchovsky, CEO of PAWS. “The cost to provide a PAWS Assistance Dog to a person with a disability is around $35,000 and we do this without charging our clients thanks to contributions like these. We are beyond grateful for this support from EHTC, which will allow us to continue fulfilling our life-changing mission.”

The Chipping for Charity golf outing includes an 18-hole, four-person scramble with contests like longest putt, longest drive, and closest to the pin.
