After breaking into the top 10 last year, Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital is ranked the 9th Best Rehabilitation Hospital in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Rankings are based on factors including clinical outcomes, physician perception, quality of care, and patient experience.

U.S. News & World Report considered 1,049 hospitals in the country for its 2024-25 Rehabilitation Hospital category ranking. Mary Free Bed exceeded the national average in several key metrics, including the rate of patients returning home after rehabilitation versus requiring further care in another institution.

This year, the hospital received a rating of very high for the number of patients treated who experienced strokes, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. Advanced technologies and on-site services available for patients also earned Mary Free Bed an excellent rating.

"This acknowledgement is an incredible testament to the dedication of Mary Free Bed team members," said Kent Riddle, President and CEO, Mary Free Bed. "This recognition reflects the extraordinary care our staff provides every day – turning challenges into triumphs. It's amazing to see how our commitment to restoring hope and freedom is resonating across the country. We're beyond proud, but trust me, we're just getting started!"

Mary Free Bed started with a single bed in 1891 and has since grown into a rehabilitation system with over 2,300 staff at over 60 locations. It is a leader among rehabilitation providers in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. In fiscal year 2024, the organization served even more patients, reaching just under 100,000 people.

This year, the organization continues to grow, including expanding services to Virginia with a new partnership with Valley Health for inpatient rehabilitation. Later this year, Mary Free Bed will break ground on Michigan's first children's rehabilitation hospital. Planned to open in 2026, Joan Secchia Children's Rehabilitation Hospital is a partnership between Mary Free Bed and Corewell Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. It will be located in Grand Rapids on the Mary Free Bed Grand Rapids Campus.
