Transition brings new coffee and wine experience to downtown market

After more than a decade, Aperitivo will close its Grand Rapids Downtown Market location effective May 1. The space will soon be home to Squibb Coffee & Wine Bar, offering coffee, wine, cheese, and charcuterie.

The decision marks a strategic shift for the team behind Aperitivo, allowing them to focus efforts on their flagship store, Art of the Table, located at 606 Wealthy St. SE. Art of the Table will continue to offer the same signature selection of artisan cheese, charcuterie, wine, and craft beer.

“We are so grateful for the trust our community has placed in us over the years,” the Aperitivo team shared in a Facebook post. “Your support has meant everything, and we’re going to miss this chapter immensely.”

The move comes full circle for Squibb Coffee & Wine Bar owner Mallory Squibb, who once worked at Aperitivo before founding her own business.

“Working for Aperitivo many years ago was formative in my love for cheese and wine,” said Squibb.

Squibb Coffee & Wine Bar will make minor updates to the space before opening.

“We are looking forward to our new expansion in the downtown market and growing our coffee, wine, and cheese program,” said Squibb. “Taking over such a lovely space with ample seating and a high reputation for quality cheese and charcuterie will be a great move for Squibb and allow us to expand our food menu, catering options, wine selection, and other retail items.”

Squibb Coffee & Wine Bar will continue to operate its other locations at 955 Wealthy St., 1220 Fulton St., and its partnership with Fika, which is owned by Rise Authentic Baking, in the Creston neighborhood, which is set to open in May 2025.
