Architecture association elects new board leadership
Anne Doornbos
The Grand Rapids Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has announced the election of new leadership and board members for the 2025 term. Anne Doornbos of TowerPinkster has been elected as the new President, with Doug Campbell from Hanbury serving as Vice President. Tod Stevens of Progressive Companies will assume the role of Past President. Joining the board this year is new Chapter Director, Jordan Johnson, from GMB.
Doornbos has been a board member of AIA Grand Rapids since 2021.
In the past few years, the chapter has increased its focus on developing a new strategic plan, fully funding a new scholarship endowment, creating a new leadership grant for its members, and bridging the gap between licensure and seasoned industry professionals.
In 2024, Sarah Carter and Doornbos spearheaded the founding of a mentorship program called THRIVE. The program pairs mid-career professionals with 30-40+ year professionals, building stronger knowledge-sharing ties within the design community.
“I am galvanized by our organization's recent work and it continues to be an honor to serve our local architecture and design community through the American Institute of Architects,” said Doornbos.
The Board of Directors also consists of:
Michael Belisle, The Design Forum (Treasurer)
Ben Franceschi, Mathison | Mathison Architects (Secretary)
Matthew Christie, Mathison | Mathison Architects (AIA Michigan Director)
Marie Arrington, C2AE
Sarah Carter, Ware Malcomb
Sean Costello, Diekema Hamann Architecture & Engineering
Joe Harmon, Fishbeck
Matthew VanSweden, Progressive Companies
