Gardens welcomes new Vice President

Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park has hired Aaron Turner as its new Vice President of Philanthropy. With more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit leadership, fund development, and strategic donor engagement, Turner will have a key role in advancing Meijer Gardens’ mission through philanthropic partnerships and community support.
A distinguished nonprofit executive and development strategist; with a career spanning major donor relations, corporate partnerships, and innovative fundraising initiatives, Turner brings vast experience that includes serving as director of development at WGVU Public Media and senior development/finance director at Boy Scouts of America. His expertise in planned giving and digital donor engagement has helped organizations enhance donor retention and revenue growth, ensuring long-term financial sustainability.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Turner is a dedicated advocate for equity and leadership development. He serves as a trainer with Grand Valley State University’s Institute for Inclusion and Equity and the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, where he facilitates workshops on equitable leadership, board governance, and nonprofit fund development.

Turner holds a Bachelor of Arts from Michigan State University, a Professional Master of Arts in Social Innovation from Grand Valley State University, and a certification in Nonprofit Leadership from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His commitment to the community is reflected in his board service with the Grand Rapids Community College Foundation, Grand Rapids Community Foundation, and Association of Fundraising Professionals.
