The 2024 César E. Chávez Social Justice March will take a new path this year due to a construction project on César E. Chávez Avenue designed to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. Participants will convene at Roosevelt Park at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 14. The procession will commence at 11 a.m., circling the park building and proceeding along the drive to culminate in a community gathering at The Potter's House Chapel, 810 Van Raalte Dr. SW.

The community gathering will provide an opportunity for reflection, celebration, and unity in remembrance of Chávez's legacy.

“Although the route looks different, the message remains the same. Come together and join us for this annual event honoring César E. Chávez,” said Evette Pittman, Special Events Supervisor, City of Grand Rapids.

Hosted by The Committee to Honor César E. Chávez, the 2024 march continues the tradition of celebrating Chávez's contributions and enduring influence on workers' rights and social justice.

Limited parking will be available starting at 9:30 a.m. at The Edge Urban Fellowship. A shuttle service between The Edge Urban Fellowship parking lot and Roosevelt Park will be available from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The 2024 César E. Chávez Unity Luncheon will be at Maya Mexican Grill and Bar, 1020 28th St SW, at 1 p.m. Registration for the luncheon can be completed via Grand Valley State University's Division of Inclusion and Equity website. Individual tickets are $100 and a reserved table with 10 tickets is $1,500. Registration fees support the Committee to Honor César E. Chávez initiatives.
