West Michigan Construction Institute (WMCI) has opened its newly expanded construction educational facility at 801 Century Ave SW in Grand Rapids. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, September 11. The facility was expanded to meet the growing demand for construction education in West Michigan.

The 4,757-square-foot expansion project includes the addition of two new labs – one multi-trade lab housing carpentry, drywall, exterior envelope, plumbing, and sprinkler fitting trades, and one concrete lab which includes a sand pit, where students will practice the concrete trade and provide other trades with underground lab space.

In addition to two new labs, WMCI has added two more classrooms, a board room, and consolidated staff offices with upgraded security features.

According to WMCI, the expansion marks a significant step forward in its ongoing commitment to educating the next generation of trade professionals and creating opportunities for  WMCI students to pursue their career goals.

"We are excited to re-open our doors and welcome students, industry partners, and community partners to our new lab space," said Jen Schottke, President, West Michigan Construction Institute. "This ribbon-cutting ceremony is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in making this project a reality."
