Restaurant seeks new home, calls on community for support

Filipino restaurant Adobo Boy is planning a move from its current location at 3740 28th St SE in Kentwood, where it has been operating under a sublease from Amazing Myanmar Asian Cuisine. Restaurant owners Ace and Jacqueline Marasigan are actively searching for a new location on the northeast side of Grand Rapids and asking the community for support in their journey to secure a space. Due to increased rent and other contributing factors, Adobo Boy will not renew its sublease when it ends this summer.

“For the past year and three months, we have operated inside another restaurant, learning invaluable lessons,” said Ace. “We aim to create more than just a dining destination, but a vibrant community hub where traditions are celebrated, stories are shared, and lasting memories are made. We want Adobo Boy to be a legacy for our family, a home that our son Redd can one day inherit if he so chooses, and a testament to the power of unity and cultural pride.”

The Marasigan’s have started loan applications, are using their savings, and sell personal items and exclusive merchandise to help fund this new chapter. However, despite these efforts, they expect to be short of their funding goal.

“We long for a day when we don’t simply work at other companies or see each other only at the end of long, tiring days. Instead, we envision a place to grow together, share our heritage, and build something meaningful as a family,” Ace said.

With any donation, Adobo Boy will put the donor’s name on its Barangay Adobo Boy wall art. Any donations of $100 or more will receive a Barkada shirt.  To donate, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-us-open-adobo-boy.
