West Michigan's impact on the state's accounting profession was recognized at the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) Celebrate event, held November 13 at the Gem Theatre in Detroit. Hungerford, Grand Valley State University, and Wayne Roberts were among the honored leaders.

Hungerford was presented with the Advancing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award, recognizing the firm's commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace and creating pathways to opportunity for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Grand Valley State University’s School of Accounting received the Excellence in Accounting Award for its innovative Accounting Careers + Education Discovery Program. The program introduces high school students to the college experience and highlights the many advantages and opportunities of earning an accounting degree.

Grand Rapids-based Wayne Roberts, Member and Co-Chair of Business Practice at Bodman PLC, was awarded the Thomas M. Hoatlin Award. This prestigious honor recognizes a MICPA member who has contributed most significantly to fostering a productive relationship between the MICPA and the Michigan Department of Treasury.

The Celebrate event, emceed by Emmy-winning journalist Huel Perkins, also served as a fundraiser for the Michigan Accountancy Foundation. The foundation provides essential scholarships, educator grants, and career exploration resources for future CPAs, ensuring that talented students have the support they need to pursue accounting careers.
