Brewery to host Día de los Muertos celebration
Founders Brewing Company will hold a Día de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, November 2, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., as part of an all-day taproom event sponsored by the company’s employee-led DEI Council. Located at 235 Cesar E. Chavez Ave SW in Grand Rapids, the event will feature a Hispanic artist market, traditional Mexican food offerings, cultural decorations, and live music.
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that honors friends and family members who have passed away. Traditionally celebrated with gatherings, decorations, and food, the holiday has deep roots in Mexican culture.
Local artisans will sell handmade items in Founders’ Beer Garden as part of a craft artist market. Founders will serve traditional Mexican foods, including Pan De Muerto (a sweet bread associated with the holiday) and Champorrada, a popular Mexican drink. A specialty item, the Hamburguesa Mexicana — featuring jalapeños, banana peppers, roasted poblano, jalapeño jack cheese, and chipotle crème on a black bun — will also be available.
The brewery’s taproom will showcase Día de los Muertos decorations by local artists Alynn Guerra and Carlos Aceves, who will transform the space with colorful flowers, papel picado banners, and themed lighting.
Live entertainment will include a performance by DJ Jorge Lamas, with additional music acts expected. The event is open to the public and aims to provide an immersive cultural experience celebrating the holiday’s themes of remembrance and community.
