Home Repair Services of Kent County, a nonprofit that supports vulnerable Kent County homeowners, is honoring Allyson Terpsma with its Abe DeVries Volunteer Award. Terpsma is a partner with the law firm Warner Norcross + Judd LLP.

Terpsma will receive the award at the 2024 Resourceful Homeowner Celebration on March 7, at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. The award was established in 2018 and named after Abe DeVries, a longstanding volunteer and board member. Recipients are recognized for their commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

"We are delighted to acknowledge Allyson as a recipient of the Abe DeVries Volunteer Award," said Joel Ruiter, Executive Director, Home Repair Services. "Allyson’s dedicated six years of service on our board, including five years as an officer and the last two as our Board Chair, have been invaluable. Her steadiness and wise counsel were particularly appreciated as she helped lead us through the many challenges of the pandemic while responding to increased demands for our services.”

Terpsma focuses her practice on labor and employment counsel for employers across various industries, including higher education and health care. She guides clients through difficult employee situations and advises them on civil rights laws, disability and leave issues, wage and hour compliance and labor relations. Terpsma provides human resources and supervisor training, and conducts internal investigations, provides contractual services and defends clients before state and federal government agencies.

Home Repair Services of Kent County offers residents a variety of income-based repair, housing counseling and education, and self-help services and workshops. For more information, visit https://www.homerepairservices.org/.
